With the generous donation from donors in our community, HTOS procured a Sudarshana Narasimha idol in June 2026. The idol has been specially made with Panchaloha in Kumbakonam, India.
Sudarshana Narasimha Swamy is a double-sided idol, typically cast in a single piece of metal.
Prana Pratisthapana is typically a multi-day event involving the temple priest and invited priests from the neighboring temples due to the significance of consecrating a new deity in a temple – it has tremendous significance to the temple and community. At HTOS, the event took place over two days and our priest DarshanJi handled it himself from start to finish. It was an event done well and we now have the blessings of Sudarshana Narasimha.
As it happened…
On July 11, the event started with Ganapathi Pooja and Mahasankalpam with the donors for the idol and the general community. The Rakshabandanam for the Priest and devotees who planned to be present for both the days was followed by Mruthsangranam, Panchagavisnapanam and Dwara Aradhanam Kalasha Pooja. At the end of the first day, the deities were offered Jaladivasam, Danadivasam, Pushpadivasam, Shaiyadivasam (collectively the Athivasam Pooja). The deities (literally) rested for the night after Mangala Aarti. Devotees had brought various prasad which were shared and enjoyed after the event.
The second day started early on July 12 at 8 AM with Suprabhadam to wake up the deities. It was followed by a series of rituals – Vishwasena Pooja, Dwara Aradhanam, Kalasha Pooja, Thatvanasya Homam, Pranapradista Homam, Netromelana, Kalasha Abhishekam – which effectively incorporated various aspects of a God in human form in to the idol as per our sastras. The “Prana” was then incarnated in to the deity followed by the first special abhishekam with the spiritual waters from the 16+ kalashas that were constituted the previous day.
After Alankar, the God “opened” His eyes and His first darshan was for the kanyas who were present for the event. From that moment on, the rest of the devotees could worship and pray and obtain His blessings.
Many devotees brought in prasad and food prepared exclusively for sharing with the community on this special day.
And thats how the dual deities of Lord Sudharshana and Lord Narasimha came in to be part of the Hindu Temple of Siouxland and to bless the community for many, many years to come!
After the event, the vice-president of Executive Committee Suresh Yarabarla had this to say:
